Friends Don’t Let Friends Join A Modern Wannabe 80’s Post-Punk Band

First, let me start out by saying that I am not going to name a single wannabe 80’s modern post-punk band in this post. So, if you are looking for some spicy drama you ain’t going to find it here. If you are a person who has been trying to find new music in the modern post-punk genre you will know exactly what I am talking about. Same thing applies if you are trying to find good goth bands since the line between the genres is very blurred right now. Suffice it to say that this issue is very out in the open for anybody to easily observe.

In music there are always trend trains that some musicians want to jump on because they think it will bring them more attention. For the last few years the 1980’s have been very popular with teens and those who actually don’t remember the decade. It’s a nostalgia trip down memory lane based partially on the music that they think was popular at that time. Joy Division being featured on Stranger Things is a prime example of this. However, what these people don’t realise is that Joy Division actually wasn’t that well known back then. Chicks with huge perms and wearing neon workout gear were not Jazzercising to Joy Division. Trust me. I had a gym class back then that made us Jazzercise to Wham. Yeah, that’s right, most people back then listened to really corny pop music.

What these trend jumpers don’t understand is that not every single ‘post-punk’ band in the 80’s sounded the same. They weren’t all copying Joy Division and many had their own sound going on. Back then you could listen to the radio or a mix-tape and know what bands were being played just by their sound. Instead of trying to sound different from one another many of these modern self described ‘post-punk’ bands think that they have to lift Peter Hook’s bass riffs in order to be included in the genre. I am not saying that every single one of the modern post-punk bands does this, but enough do it to the point that it has become tedious having to wade through an endless number of clones to find bands that have the creativity to actually mix the now stereotypical sound with the music of other subgenres.

All of this has gotten the point in which people ask in online goth communities about how to start a post-punk band and how to copy the sound. I always tell people to create their own sound because there are way too many clone bands around right now. I think it takes a lot of creativity to start a band, however that creativity is thrown out of the window when the musicians in a band play the same bass and guitar riffs as Joy Division.

BE YOURSELF, NOT SOMEBODY THAT YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO BE IN ORDER TO ‘FIT IN’ !!!!! Screw fitting in. Screw music trends. Do you know what is going to happen? If the music industry tries to mainstream the goth subculture yet again I guarantee that they are going to sign these wannabe 80’s post-punk bands. Why? Because they are safe sounding and don’t challenge the listener in any way, shape or form. I was around in the SF Bay Area when pop-punk reared its ugly head, and tons of non threatening bands got signed to major labels. What is happening right now is very similar. Meaning that a more mainstream commercial type sound is being popularized and being promoted as being ‘different’ right now, when in fact it’s about as challenging as eating a bowl of cornflakes.

No, It Is Not Edgy To Buy A Premade ‘Punk’ Jacket

The above photo has been making the rounds on the internet for the past few days. Somebody took the photo in a store called Box Lunch in a mall. Said store is owned by Hot Topic, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise since that company has had a reputation for profiting off of subcultures for about 30 years now. The thing that bothers me the most about this is that people are going to buy these atrocities without listening or even knowing about the bands painted upon them.

The first thing you notice about this jacket is that Agent Orange is shorted to Agent Ora and Dr. Know is changed to RX Know. Oh, and they messed up the name of Chaos UK. I don’t know if it was done out of pure laziness or that they didn’t want to be sued by said bands, but they got the names of the other bands correct so I’m guessing that they don’t really care about the whole getting sued thing. Somebody, in some factory in China or elsewhere, was told what to stencil so they probably had no clue that they were real bands. They have been exploited by whomever came up with this crap. Yes, I see the irony of using the word ‘exploited’.

I guarantee that people who buy this thing are going to get shit for wearing it when somebody goes up to them and wants to talk about the bands on it. It’s exciting to see somebody wear the merch of a band that you really like, and more exciting to have a discussion about them. However when these people are innocently asked about what their favourite band is on the jacket their eyes will glaze over in a panic because they didn’t realize that the names were of real punk bands. They bought the jacket because they thought it looked edgy.

I am all for people buying whatever they want to wear, and I’m realistic about the fact that not everybody can easily DIY clothing. I have multiple sclerosis and quite frequently I don’t have the energy to sew or paint. However, I feel that jackets are the one thing that should be personalized by the person who wears it. It’s a tradition that has been around since the early days of punk in the 1970’s, and something that means a lot to people in the punk, metal and goth subcultures. It shows other people in the subcultures what bands, films, or other things that you are heavily into. It even becomes a focal point of interest that will sometimes turn into a conversation with another person that is into similar things. Yes, sometimes ‘gatekeepers’ will be creeps and try to test you on your knowledge to make themselves feel superior. I’ve had it happen to me and it sucks. Not everybody is a creep though, and friendships can be started over a love of the same bands which is neat!

These days it’s really easy to learn how to paint on a leather or pleather jacket. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube showing you exactly how to do it and it really isn’t that difficult of a project to accomplish. You’re not good at painting? You can make a stencil out of cardboard, or any kind of thicker type paper, and do it that way. If what you create isn’t 100% perfect that is okay. You actually don’t even have to put band names on a jacket if you don’t want to. The latest one that I painted, shown below, doesn’t have a single band name on it. I am heavily into post-apocalyptic and dystopian films so I went with that kind of theme. There are also tutorials online that teach you how to stud a jacket and the studs are very cheap to buy on sites such as Etsy.

This is the best looking jacket I have ever painted and I used a combo of stencils and freehand.

When it comes down to it when you buy a premade ‘punk’ jacket you are being exploited by a company wanting to make money off of a subculture that they don’t give a crap about. They don’t care about the long history of the DIY ethos that runs through it. Instead they see you as a rube willing to spend your hard earned cash on their manufactured product in order to look ‘edgy’. Don’t be a victim of their avarice and greed. When you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything you want, including painting bands that you love on your own jacket.

Why The Hell Are ‘Goth Influencers’ Still Supporting Dollskill?

Dollskill, for those of you who don’t know, is an ‘alternative’ clothing brand that has a very problemic past involving stealing designs, racism, ableism and all sorts of nefarious type things. These events are very well known and several videos on the subject have been made by illuminaughtii, Emily Boo, Ready To Glare and many other YouTube content creators. If you type in ‘Dollskill sucks’ you will be greeted by a ton of videos on the subject.

Their clothes for the most part are very cringe worthy, made for young women who are graduating from the school of Hot Topic. They are definitely not aimed towards older people such as myself. They have different looks listed under the profiles of different young women:

  • Mercy – Represents the ‘goth’ look, that according to them includes the wearing of pentagrams, crosses and lots of lace and see through clothing. In other words the exact same kind of crap being sold by a ton of other ‘alternative’ sites. The name is a play on the most basic goth band The Sisters Of Mercy, how droll of them.
  • Darby – Represents the ‘punk’ look, that according to them includes the wearing of plaid, short skirts and graphic printed shirts. Just like the Mercy section many of the clothes have lace and are see through. Do you sense a pattern going on? This name is based on the singer for the Germs Darby Crash. How rebellious!
  • Willow – Represents the ‘festival’ look, that according to them includes a bunch of fringe, bell bottoms and clothing that looks like Rainbow Brite threw up on them. There are three more profiles but I seriously don’t feel like punishing my eyes any longer.

With all of this being said why the hell are ‘influencers’ still promoting them? My guess is because free cheaply made overpriced clothing is more important than anything else. The dumb bitches are outing themselves as being casual supporters of racism, among other things, which makes it really easy to avoid and ignore them. Yes, I called them dumb bitches, because you have got to be a really shallow and dense individual if your ‘look’ is more important than not supporting a company run by yet another dumb bitch.

What makes these people any different than the ‘normies’ that they often complain about? Nothing, because they are in fact ‘normies’. In the famous words of Jello Biafra: ‘You ain’t hardcore cos you spike your hair when a jock still lives in your head’. In other words, wearing black clothing doesn’t automatically make you ‘goth’, no matter how hard you try. This is especially true when you show off the free merch that you are receiving from a shit brand like Dollskill.

Don’t want to be considered a dumb bitch? Then don’t support brands such as Dollskill. Instead of showing off outfits that you receive free from questionable companies maybe actually spend your own money on the clothes that you wear. Too broke to buy the clothes yourself? Welcome to reality, a place in which most people cannot throw down a couple of thousand pounds for a whole new wardrobe. Instead, they steadily buy pieces through the years and wear them for so long that they will only toss them when they can no longer be fixed. Normally the only people who care about the newest trends in clothing are the trendies who will buy a whole new season of clothing by a designer several times a year. So if you run across a goth ‘influencer’ online that always jumps on ‘alternative’ trends, such as wearing clothes with crescent moons all over them, then you are witnessing behaviour that is no different from that acted out by the rest of society. The only difference is that the ‘influencer’ is wearing mostly black.

He must feel powerful, but he should be wearing black lipstick in order to become a goth superhero.

Why the hell are there ‘influencers’ in the goth subculture to begin with? Why do people need to be told exactly what to wear? These fashion victims think that looking dark and edgy automatically makes them goth. These are the same people who will take a selfie of themselves wearing black lipstick and post said photo all over the internet claiming they feel powerful and goth wearing such lipstick. Goth ‘influencers’ perpetuate all of this crap. Most actual people in the subculture do not put on a full face of make-up every single day and don’t dress to the nines just to go grocery shopping, unless they especially feel like it. Hell, there have been times I’ve done it because I was bored out of mind and wanted to look extra pretty that day. I take no issue with that at all. It becomes a problem when others in the subculture expect you to do it every single day or you’re not considered a ‘real’ goth.

These goth ‘influencers’ are considered to be ‘real’ goths by their followers which is at the heart of this problem. When they promote companies such as Dollskill they are basically saying to their fans that wearing Dollskill clothing is a very goth thing to do. They don’t mention all of the issues the company has had because they don’t want to lose that free swag they keep getting. The majority of these influencers, as you can expect, are young thin white women. Since they don’t really experience racism why should they have to worry their pretty little heads about it? If you buy the same clothes and wear your make-up exactly like them then you too could perhaps become an influencer! I call it the Kardashianization of the goth subculture. People becoming famous even though they aren’t talented in any way, shape or form.

So, what have we learned today? That aspiring to become a stupid bitch isn’t something that people should be wanting to do. Dollskill is trash and doesn’t deserve your hard earned money, especially during a world wide economic meltdown.

Combine Disney And Star Wars Fandoms And What Do You Get? Toxic Sludge

I would like to start this out by saying that I do not think that Disney World should be open right now. However, from what I have seen online, they are very strictly enforcing their mask mandate and are throwing people out of the park for taking them off. I’ve seen footage of this happening. They have been crowding the Florida parks too much though and that does piss me off. Disneyland Paris has been closed for months and won’t reopen till April or later, and I applaud this. It’s because the leadership in France isn’t as stupid as the governor of Florida. Has the French government done dumb shit? Of course, but in this case they are doing the correct thing and I applaud them for that.

Late next year I am planning a trip to Disneyland Paris for my husband and I. I am turning 50 next month, but since the park is closed I cannot go there for my birthday. This has me sad and pissed off at the same time. Sad because my 50th birthday is going to suck, and pissed off because a bunch of idiots can’t handle wearing a mask or socially distancing themselves from others. Now we are more than likely going to go in October of next year, since most people will be vaccinated by then and Halloween is our favourite holiday. I know that some of you think that Disney sucks, and I do take issue with some of the things they have done over the years. However, I haven’t been to a Disney park since the early 80’s and this has been kind of a dream of mine. Plus, I have MS and I want to go soon because I might not be able to walk in a few years.

With all of that being said I have been watching various Disney themed YouTube channels because I want to be full of excitement and knowledge by the time we visit the park. I have come to discover that there are many content creators on there that actively hate Disney so much that they make video after video of anti-Disney material. Most, but not all, of the time this is tied to the Star Wars franchise. I have absolutely nothing against people criticizing Disney, but many of their loudest critics also spout alt-right talking points. The fact that Disney is trying to become more inclusive really pisses them off.

Why would people be pissed off about a company actively trying to be more inclusive you may be asking. Could it be because they are stuck back in the 1950’s and don’t want the world to change? Are they bitter because Disney took away their press credentials so that they aren’t privy to new Disney news any longer? Do they hold Star Wars to a certain ideal and are permanently pissed off that Disney hasn’t achieved their level of perfection? Do they think that social justice warriors are evil and have ruined both Disney and Star Wars? The channels in question usually fall into one of these categories, but in truly special cases they fall into several of them.

A common thing that the anti-Mickey Mouse Club shouts over and over again is that Disney is failing and that they can’t wait for it to happen. Disney is cutting the racist crow scene out of Dumbo? ‘They are losing all of their supporters over this and are going down!’. Disney actively casts more women in their Star Wars films? ‘Disney is filled with swjs bringing the company down!’. Disney hired Krystina Arielle for The High Republic Show, a web series all about Star Wars: The New Republic? ‘Disney is going down because they hired a black woman who is racist against white people!’.

Yes, you read the last entry correctly. I listened to one YouTube channel in particular that went on and on about how Krystina was racist against white people because of some of the things she posted during the height of the BLM protests. Want to know what she posted? Here you go:

How the hell is she being racist towards white people? The reason why these idiots are accusing her of racism is because they are projecting their own insecurities onto her. In other words the people in question are themselves racist. They are pissed off that a black woman got hired to host the show. They think that Disney has been taken over by sjws, and that their attempt at inclusion is to the detriment of white fans of both Star Wars and Disney. Also, they deem anybody who disagrees with them to be a paid Disney shills. Seriously. I wonder when my check is going to arrive?

Notice how I am not naming the guilty offenders of all of this? If you take a leisurely stroll over to YouTube it doesn’t take a very long time to find these channels. I refuse to name them because that is exactly what they want. They are like spoiled brats who think that all attention is good, even when it is negative in nature.

Please don’t think that all people who are into Disney and Star Wars are like this, because they are not. There are many fans out there who may dislike some aspects of Disney and Star Wars but they are not being racist and sexist bitches about it. I think constructive criticism is an awesome thing, and when done brilliantly companies do seriously listen. What Disney is not going to do is listen to are anti-sjw tirades that bring nothing to the table besides hate, jealousy and anger. If I can see through that crap then you can bet that Disney can as well.

Despite all of this I still love Star Wars and want to go to Disneyland Paris. I’m not going to let a bunch of racist narcissists spoil my fun!

EDIT: As I finish this article a negative YouTube channel that I have mentioned is now bitching about Disney wanting to deplatform them and other channels like them. I don’t know…maybe this could be the case because these channels have been constantly using alt-right talking points and have been openly racist and hateful towards people involved with Disney and Star Wars? Hmmmmm……………..

Idiots In Florida Held An In Person Goth Club Event

Last night I learned about an in person goth club event that happened recently in Florida. My first thought was of course it happened in Florida because so much dumb crap happens there. Immediately after that I thought that the promoters, DJs, and the band that participated are all self centred fucks who think that their event is more important than people catching the virus and dying. Apathy is one hell of a drug.

According to news sources Florida is one of the states that has been hit the hardest by the covid virus. Normal people would think that it would be a bad idea to hold an in person event during this time. However, the people that held this event aren’t normal at all. Instead they are ‘GOTHS’, with the big G, who are magical and don’t need masks and social distancing at all. Since this is the case they can hold events and act like everything is normal just because they can.

I’ve seen some of the footage of the event and I didn’t see a single mask being worn. Even the band, whose spittle is being spread all over the room because of their elevated status, aren’t wearing masks. They are Astari Nite and I’d like to thank them for warning me about how truly selfish and dumb they are so that I don’t waste any money buying their music. For whatever reason they thought that they were so important that they deserved to play an actual live show in person during a historic pandemic. If this had been the time of the Black Death they would be on a corner of a death filled street happily playing their music as people keeled over. They probably would write a song called ‘Bring Out Your Dead’.

The DJs at the event deserve some hate too, so let’s not forget about them. The only one I’ve ever heard of is DJ Jason, mostly because he comes across as a bit of an ass online. Somebody asked him about how they are putting on a goth music night because of the dangers of the virus and he basically says that they should ask the promoters about it. Oh hell no, he is just as responsible for this dumpster fire of an event as the promoters because he agreed to appear there. He has announced to the entire world that he is a self centered jerk that doesn’t care about the virus. He thinks that his ability, or inability, to spin music is such an important event that people should risk their lives to witness this immaculate miracle.

As you can tell this whole event has made me very angry and livid, and it has reminded me as to why I’ve been quite happy not attending any in person goth events for about the last twenty years. There has always been a really nasty streak of apathy in the goth subculture. In about the last ten years I have seen that slowly change as people in the subculture actually stand up for important issues instead of pretending that such issues don’t affect them at all. This event proves that this toxic attitude still exists. Participating in a live goth event during a historic pandemic is more important than protecting people from getting the virus. They think that they are so special that the virus is something other people get.

I was going to post a video of the maskless event that I saw on DJ Jason’s profile but he has, within the last 30 minutes, deleted it. I guess he found out that people are quite pissed off about this whole debacle. Just because he deleted it doesn’t mean that memories of the event are going to be suddenly erased. The internet remembers everything. What can we learn from all of this? That some people have such huge egos that caring about the welfare of others isn’t a priority. Don’t want to be shit on? Then don’t hold in person events during a huge pandemic.

That Time I Refused To Hang Out With Green Day

Before I start telling this story I would like it to be known that I have always disliked Green Day and their music. I used to attend 924 Gilman, the famous punk club in Berkeley, around 90-91 and Green Day would always open for the bands I wanted to see. This was before they were signed to a major label and I always found their music to be bland and boring. It was basically pop music and I had a discussion with the guy who was in charge of Gilman at the time about that. He didn’t like them either but he predicted that they would get signed to a major label because they were boring and safe. He was right.

The members of Green Day were major assholes to just about everybody during that time. Despite what they have said in interviews I never once remember them hanging out after they played. They would play and then disappear. One time I yelled really loudly there that Green Day sucks, and they happened to be standing next to me. One of them said ‘We’re Green Day.’, and I responded with the word ‘So.’. I still crack up thinking back on that because they walked away without saying a word in response.

Around 2001/2002 I was at a show at Gilman with a boyfriend and a roommate to see a mutual friend’s band play. There were maybe thirty people there since they weren’t famous or anything. Guess who showed up that night…Green Day. They set up their gear on the stage a proceeded to play a surprise set. What you have to understand is that they were actually banned from ever playing there again because they signed to a major label and major label bands were not allowed to play there. So, nobody knew that this was going to happen. The younger part of the crowd were all happy and excited while I just stood there bored out of my mind.

After Green Day played my then boyfriend started kissing their asses and chatting them up. The funny thing about it was that he would always talk shit about pop-punk, yet there he was acting like he thought they were cool. I can honestly say that it was one of the most pathetic things I have ever witnessed. A few minutes after this the boyfriend comes up to me and tells me that Green Day have invited the three of us to hang out with them at their warehouse. My response was basically the following statement.

They were assholes ten years ago and they are still assholes. I’m not going to hang out with them just because they are famous. Fuck them, I’m driving home.

He stared at me like I was nuts. There was no way that I was going to be a giant hypocrite and hang out with musicians that I heavily disliked just because they were famous. Hell no. I then turned around and drove home. The next day the boyfriend and roommate told me that Green Day bought them breakfast at Denny’s and that one of them actually wanted to hookup with me. I honestly don’t remember which one but I still find that bit of it hilarious.

The moral of this story is that you should never kiss the ass of musicians just because they are famous. This is especially true when you heavily dislike the music that the band plays. Have some dignity and walk away.

Don’t Wear A Mask Or Socially Isolate When Told? Then You Are A Massive Cunt.

It really seems to be ‘in’ right now to act like a raging toddler who screams ‘You’re not the boss of me!’. Rather than actually listening to health professionals who have spent years working with infectious diseases people will now follow the lead of some random anonymous person that they follow on social media.

How did we get to this point in history? The simple fact is that a certain percentage of the population are dumb cunts. People who think that their ‘freedom’ is more important than the lives of others. Screw helping vulnerable people avoid getting the corona virus and dying, they’re going to go to a bunch of stores without wearing a mask to show the world how much of a dumb cunt they are. They are like the kids in your grade school who would brag about picking their nose and then show off their huge boogers to the whole class. LOOK AT ME!!!!

This phenomenon isn’t just happening in the US and UK, it’s pretty much happening everywhere. The most common large maskless gatherings seem to be either church services or parties. So these cunts think either their chosen God will save them, or that they can’t catch it while being young and dancing drunk. This proves that being a dumb cunt doesn’t happen within just one age group or social economic class. You’ve even got dumb wealthy wanker cunts jetting off to go on vacations and then escaping from such places when told to socially isolate. Remember folks, it’s perfectly okay to be ignorant cunt when you have money.

Are you a dumb cunt who is reading this and getting pissed off because I’m calling you out? Good. If you get the disease because of not wearing a mask and not socially isolating I will not feel sorry for you at all. Seriously, why should I feel sorry for a person who chose to act like a dumb cunt? It is perfectly okay not to feel sorry for people who choose to act like spoiled toddlers.

Personally, I think databases in countries should be started on the people who refuse to wear masks and socially isolate. If these people attempt to go to hospitals after getting sick they should automatically be relegated to the parking lots and get treatment after everybody else. Spain is actually starting a database on people who refuse to take the vaccine, so I feel that this is a step in the right direction.

Don’t want to be considered a dumb cunt? Stop acting like a self righteous spoiled brat and wear a damn mask and socially isolate when you are told to do so. The end.

Black Lives Matter

I’m writing this because what is going on in the US is making me very upset. Seeing time and time again black people being murdered by the police just because of the colour of their skin, and said police not being punished for it. A slap on the wrist, some paid leave and then they are free to commit more crimes. Yes, this has been going on forever, but with the invention of the camera phone such murders are now getting the public attention that they had never received before. However, the police are still getting away with murder because the whole system supports institutionalized racism.

If you are a white person reading this and are working class/poor you have more in common with black people, and other people of colour, than you do with the wealthy of your own race. The US government doesn’t want you to find that out because they know that if all of the working class/poor in the US band together that they can take down the US government. Every single time a leader, or group, brings together people of all races they are arrested or assassinated; Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Fred Hampton and the Black Panthers.

I grew up poor in San Francisco in the 1970’s. So poor that I remember my parents taking me to one of the Black Panthers free food programs for children on Haight Street. They didn’t give a crap that I was a little white girl, they only saw me as a hungry child. The Black Panthers are always depicted by the US government, and by a lot of the media, as thugs who didn’t give a shit about anybody except for black people. If that was the truth then why did the US government assassinate them and throw the rest in prison? The Black Panthers freaked the US government out because they were successfully reaching out to working class/poor white people and telling them that the government was the real common enemy, and to create change all of the people needed to work together.

Since I grew up poor in the US I have always felt more connected to others who are poor, no matter their colour, than to people of my own race who are wealthy. I was a teen in the 80’s who saw right through Reagan’s racist bullshit. Remember when he visited the graves of some Waffen SS soldiers in Germany and placed a wreath there? The Ramones sure as hell did and they created one of the best anti-Reagan songs to come out of the 1980’s; Bonzo Goes To Bitburg.

As you can easily guess I am not a supporter of Trump or of the GOP. The GOP has always used racist dog whistles to gain votes from white people who were too stupid to see that they were being manipulated. It was historically called the Southern Strategy, and it was used by Nixon all the way to Trump. Make white people scared of black people by stating that they are all criminals and deserve what is happening to them. Again and again you will see GOP politicians, and their white supporters, state that the police have the right to kill black people, because they didn’t cooperate with their orders. We all know that’s a lie, because there is footage proving otherwise, and yet they repeat these lies to their brainwashed adherents.

Why is all of this happening? The US government was set up by rich white men to work best for rich white men. Quite a few of the ‘founding fathers’ were slave owners who also thought that women were not equal to men. The country wasn’t founded on some lofty ideal of ‘freedom’. In fact the only reason why the American Revolution happened is because wealthy white businessmen did not want to pay taxes to Britain. Taxes that were lower than any other British ruled territory. Yes, the US was founded because of pure greed. They fail to teach this at school because if kids actually knew the truth about this they may not want to say the Pledge Of Allegiance every single day before class starts. By the way, I find the whole idea of having to say the pledge creepy as hell. In the 1940’s the Supreme Court ruled that kids could not be required to say it, so if you are a parent and your kid doesn’t want to say it back them up with that information.

Black lives matter, and the only way any of this institutionalized racism is going to stop is if the government is reformed from the top down. Every single person in the US regardless of race, creed or sex should be treated the same. The special privileges afforded only to rich white men needs to be stopped and everybody be treated by the law as an equal. If a rich white man cheats people out of their life savings they should be given the same kind of sentence as anybody who robs a bank. White collar criminals should be getting serious jail time instead of being slapped on the wrist and being told that they have been a bad boy. Many police departments in the US have been militarized and that needs to be pulled back and stopped. Also, the profiling of black men and women, and other people of colour, by the police needs to end. Finally, police departments need to be de-funded and in their place should be put social programs that actually help people instead of killing them.

The only way that the government listens is if a mass amount of people come together and protest. It scares the crap out of them, as it should. Also, I support all kinds of protest, peaceful or otherwise. It has been shown time and time again that sometimes the only way that the government listens to grievances is through mass insurrection. The protests against the Vietnam War and for the end of segregation were not all peaceful and it is foolhardy to think otherwise.

If you are in the US please vote. I just received my ballot yesterday and mailed it in today. Being a brat and saying you’re not going to vote for Biden because Bernie didn’t win the primary is going to get Trump elected yet again. I am a leftist who loves Bernie but I know that a vote for Biden is a vote for the chance to change the system. Do you think black lives matter? Then get off of your ass and vote.
